 GOOGLEPLEX Is Becoming a Reality

Metfab Metals has supplied a lot of famous jobs in New York City. But the new East Coast Headquarters of GOOGLE is special not just for technology reasons, but for real architectural and fabrication reasons too.

Last month (May, 2021) the online reporter, New York YIMBY did an in-depth review of what this building means to New York and to GOOGLE. It outlined and illustrated with progress pictures of the buildings being consolidated with 550 Washington Street.

We here at Metfab Metals were proud to supply a small, but critical, set of parts to this complex. Just drive by it and you’ll see. To us, as a custom metal fabricator, it’s what we call a “RETRO” job, one that is not an entirely new structure, but rather a re-purposing of a solid, existing building, formerly dedicated to a very different function. Here’s some of what we contributed (in part) to this makeover of the former St. John’s Terminal on the lower west side near Houston Street:

Our work at this location in Manhattan was a crucial part of a full-on retro-fit and retro-clad of the former structure. New York YIMBY further illustrated this in an article well worth reading. Look at some of what they reported: this fully modernized. retro building is being consolidated with two other contiguous structures on adjacent Hudson Street to form the overall complex. Go to New York YIMBY online and see the kinds of jobs we can do for you. [https://newyorkyimby.com/2020/10/googles-office-at-550-washington-street-nears-topping-out-in-hudson-square.html0]

To participate in such mega-projects, we have many regular customers for whom we are the “GO TO” guys now for RETRO and AESS projects. Years of continuous AESS work for the super-development at Hudson Yards in New York City for multiple customers speaks volumes about our capabilities in this art form, as well as a real-life recognition for the type of expertise we always bring to these specialty AESS as well as RETRO jobs. We’re happy to say we also bring the same care, precision and effort to your other daily, more mundane projects too.

Keep us in mind for all your steel fabrication jobs, no matter their scope, sophistication or specifications.
